A Coral Springs man has died after a workplace accident according to Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives.
On Monday morning, around 6:00 a.m. BSO deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded to a call at Kloeckner Metals at 1621 N.W. 12th Ave in Pompano Beach. Sylvester Roulhac, 71, a truck driver, from Pro Drivers had arrived to make a pick-up and was ensuring his load of steel beams was secured before exiting the warehouse. While standing outside the tractor-trailer, a pile of 40-foot-long metal beams stacked next to his truck — each weighing more than 1,000 pounds, became unsecured and fell onto Roulhac, resulting in his death.
The Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue Technical Rescue Team responded to the scene and used a crane to lift the steel beams off his body. Officials from the Occupational Health & Safety Administration also responded to the scene to investigate the incident.
A resident of Cypress Glen Townhomes in Coral Springs, Sylvester leaves behind his wife, Julie Roulhac.
The death investigation is ongoing.
