JP Taravella football began their season with a 39-0 loss in a non-conference matchup against Monarch High School Saturday night as they played their first game after the loss of Athletic Director Jason Stein.Â
It was a challenging game for Taravella, facing one of the better high schools around the area. For Head Coach Charles Hafley Jr., he feels like this completion could help them later in Districts when they face Marjory Stoneman Douglas, Coral Springs, and Coral Glades High School though he thought his team could improve in some areas.Â
“We need to be a better overall team, Hafley Jr said. “Defensively, we need to improve our tackling. Offensively, we need to execute better.”Â
Early on, Monarch got off to a red-hot start, scoring three touchdowns in the opening quarter. They continued to add to the lead as the game went on. JPT had a few chances to score as quarterback Dylan Garcia had success running the football.
Up next for JPT, the Trojans will face Coral Springs High School on Friday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. The Colts are coming off a hard-fought game where they fell to Marjory Stoneman Douglas 14-6 on Thursday night.Â
