A Coral Springs man used an aluminum baseball bat to badly damage a pickup truck and attack its owner, promising the victim he would leave his home “in a body bag,” court records show.
Thomas Pavlac, 53, allegedly kicked open the victim’s bedroom door in the 8400 block of Northwest 23rd Manor East on Aug. 25, telling the man he would kill him by slitting his throat, then vowing the victim would “leave the residence in a body bag when they’re done,” according to an arrest affidavit filed by Coral Springs Police.
Moments later, Pavlac began smashing the victim’s white Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck, using the baseball bat to shatter the truck’s passenger side window, the affidavit states.
When the victim went outside to confront Pavlac, he saw him armed with the bat and a knife, at which point Pavlac charged at him and “swung the aluminum bat at [the victim] multiple times, all while making threats to harm [him],” police wrote.
The victim ran off and called police. When officers arrived and ordered Pavlac to come forward, he refused, police said. Instead, he “elected to sit in a garden chair on the front patio area of the residence until officers had to approach and subsequently detain him,” according to the affidavit.
The court records did not include any additional details, including a possible motive for the attack.
Pavlac is charged with aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony and resisting an officer, records show.
He was released from the Broward Main Jail on a $1,000 bond, according to court records.
