Water play is coming to Coral Springs.
The city commission approved a bid from Splashpads USA to design and build a splash pad at Betti Stradling Park, located at 10301 Wiles Road.
Splash pad construction will begin by May 2022 and be complete by June. The agreement total is $426,760, but the commission can approve change orders up to $45,000.
The 4,000-square-foot facility will include a 3,000-square-foot pad, ten programmable LED sequence color lights, and a 6-foot wet deck buffer around the facility.
There will be 20 water features at the pad, including a tri-dump bucket, a mega dump with the Coral Springs logo, full rain curtains, geyser plates, and a dual flower shower.
The water features are replaceable, and new features can be added later, according to the city.
The splash pad’s location will be where the fitness area currently is. Parks and Recreation Director Rob Hunter told the commission that the city would relocate this facility. Officials chose this location because it is centrally located, fits in with the rest of the park, and is near the skate parks, pavilions, and bathrooms.
In a presentation to the commission, Rob Hunter said that the splash pad is a top priority in the city’s master plan, especially since residents wanted one.

The project initially faced delays because there was not enough supporting infrastructure at the park’s east side. The city installed a 2-inch waterline and a transformer. A new sewer line will be complete by December.
Betti Stradling Park will also have additional lighting, fencing, shade structures, and seating. Hunter said that city would also repair pathways.
Commissioner Nancy Metayer raised concerns about traffic, but Hunter said he does not anticipate traffic or parking to be a significant problem.
He added that the only times when parking could be difficult are for large-scale events like baseball tournaments.
Metayer moved to approve the construction, which Commission Shawn Cerra seconded. The commission unanimously approved construction.
