On Saturday, the Coral Springs Quilt Guild held a ceremony at Cypress Hall to honor four local veterans with Quilts of Valor.
This special project, created by various guild members, recognizes the service and sacrifice of military men and women who defended our country. The veterans were each presented with their own unique quilt—a symbol of appreciation and a warm embrace for their dedication to service.
The honorees included:
Donald M. Hunt, US Navy
Donald served in the Navy during the 1950s as a fire control technician, maintaining and repairing submarines’ electric and electronic missile fire control systems. A retired AT&T employee, Donald enjoys fishing and has a deep passion for motorcycles.
Mark Hunt, US Navy
Mark served in the Persian Gulf before Desert Storm as a Fire Control Technician 2nd Class (FT2), specializing in combat systems aboard submarines. He spent five years in the Navy and was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. Today, Mark owns American International Recovery & Investigations in Margate and continues his love for motorcycles.
Donald Hansen, US Army
Donald served as an E-5 Sergeant in the US Army, where he commanded small units of soldiers, from fire teams to squads. After retiring from the Army, he became a nurse manager at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia. Donald is also the Commanding Officer of the 25-6 Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association (CVMA) chapter in Savannah, Georgia.
William Tydings, US Marines
Bill served as a US Marine during the Korean War in 1951 and earned the rank of Corporal before retiring. After living in Maryland for several years, Bill moved to Florida in 2012. He is proud to be an active member of the veteran community.
The Quilts of Valor program continues to be a meaningful way to honor the bravery and dedication of those who have served, offering a small token of gratitude for their sacrifices.
