The J. P. Taravella girls’ track and field team surged into the spotlight at the county meet.
The Trojans finished in third place overall out of about 30 teams at the Broward County Athletic Association (BCAA) meet at Dillard High School on March 27.
Patricia Costa was the county champion in the 100-meter hurdles. Samira Belizaire earned second place in the triple jump, and Camile Camper took second place in the javelin.
The 4X100 girls took second place (48.5). Runners included Timya Johnson, Rayelle Languedoc, Tranya Standley, and Patricia Costa.
The 4X400 girls took second place (3.55) and set a school record. Runners included Samira Belizaire, Olivia Noel, Timya Johnson, and Patricia Costa.
The 4X800 girls earned third place (9:58) and set a school record. Runners included Samira Belizaire, Olivia Noel, Caileen Canales, and Valentina Castillo.
The Taravella boys’ team finished 9th. Scardy Fils earned second place in the 1600 meters, Joshua Reneau earned fifth place in the 400 hurdles, and JahRee Pierre finished eighth in the 800 hurdles.
The 4×100 boys took fifth place (42.4), a school record. Runners included Jamaal Elliott, Kevin McKinney, Jaden Barclay, and Brandon Sanders.
The 4×400 boys placed seventh (3.23). Runners included Travis Dillon, Scardy Fils, JahRee Pierre, and Joshua Reneau.
“We had some good performances at the county meet, and we are working hard to improve,” said coach Dawn Spann.
