Katherine Good is the new principal for Park Springs Elementary School. With a passion for education, she saw her role as a teacher from a young age.
“When I was in third grade, I knew I wanted to become a teacher. When I was a student at Cooper City High School, I was inspired by educators, and I realized I wanted to be a leader in education,” said Good.
She comes from Fairway Elementary School in Miramar, where she served as principal for seven years, and before that was the principal of Coconut Creek Elementary School for nine years.
Good was an assistant principal at Coral Park Elementary and Deerfield Beach Elementary. She was a teacher at Bethune Elementary in Hollywood.
“When I was teaching at Bethune, I saw that I could reach children through the arts and make a positive difference in their lives,” said Good.
She believes a principal should build trust and show support for the teachers in the school. “I plan to build a culture of trust and look for ways to expand the strengths of the teachers at Park Springs. We are an A school, and we have very committed teachers and parents here,” said Good.
An effective teacher looks for ways to reach all the children in a classroom. Good said it is important for a teacher to identify a student’s learning style and develop plans to reach every student.
Park Springs offers activities including robotics, debate, and an environmental club. “I want to enhance these programs and promote student achievement.
Good is also a student. She is pursuing a doctoral degree in education leadership at Florida Atlantic University.
