The professionals who lead Coral Springs’ day-to-day operations received stellar reviews from commissioners in their annual evaluations on October 7.
City manager Catherine Givens received an “exceeds expectations” review. The commissioners praised her for leading the city through the death of Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer Bowen and other challenging situations.
Commissioner Joshua Simmons said he is impressed that Givens handles difficult situations well and is an effective leader of a city government with more than 900 employees.
Mayor Scott Brook said Givens has surpassed his expectations and is a great leader. Commissioner Shawn Cerra said the commission made a good decision in hiring Givens and that she has maintained a positive culture among city employees.
Givens responded to the evaluation by praising senior city staff for their work and for making the city a pleasant place to work.
City Attorney John Hearn also received an “exceeds expectations” from the commission. Brook said he trusts and values the advice Hearn provides to city leadership and the legal work he has done.
Cerra said he has been impressed with Hearn’s work and considers him a great city attorney.
