Senior pitcher A.J. Prendergast tossed a no-hitter for Coral Springs Charter’s 7-0 win over Coral Glades for the third time in his career Wednesday night.
“Things were working on the mound for the most part,” said Prendergast. “I had my defense behind me, making plays for me, which gives a ton of confidence as a team. The guys did their jobs with the bats and put together some runs for us, and the no-hitter was [the] icing on the cake.”
In 2020, Prendergast threw a perfect game against Piper High School before he pitched a no-hitter in 2021 against Coral Springs High School, recording 20 of his 21 outs via the strikeout.
Prendergast struck out nine against the Jaguars despite walking two batters.
Gavin Gargiuo opened the scoring with an RBI double. Anthony Fiori walked with the bases loaded to bring in a run in the third before Anthony Giglio singled in two runs. He then added an RBI hit in the fifth and the seventh while Fiore drove in his second run on a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
The Panthers improved their record to 5-2 this year and have won two straight after a win against Deerfield Beach High School on Tuesday.
Head Coach Charlie Fine thought what Prendergast did was even more impressive because they were facing a city rival with a great team and coaching staff.
“A.J. is a fierce competitor and keeps us in games when he’s on the mound,” said Coach Fine. “When his stuff is on, he is very difficult to hit. Coach Franco had those guys ready to play, but AJ had his A stuff today.”
Next, CSC hopes to finish the week off with a sweep when they play Pembroke Pines Charter on Friday, March 11 at 5:45.
The Jaguars are 1-3 after picking up their first win on Wednesday against Cypress Bay High School.
