A former Walmart employee faces felony grand theft charges following an investigation tied to the theft of a customer’s wallet.
Asha Joanne Harrynarine, 46, of Coral Springs, was taken into custody by Coral Springs Police on December 13 after officers executed an active warrant stemming from a June theft investigation.
Records show Harrynarine was located and arrested at the Coral Square Mall area, where officers located her at a JCPenney store.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the case began on June 14, when a victim reported that her wallet was stolen while she was shopping at the Walmart located at 6001 Coral Ridge Drive. The victim told police she placed her purse in her shopping cart while paying for items and later noticed it was missing after leaving the store.
The wallet reportedly contained approximately $800 in cash, credit cards, and personal items.
According to records, when the woman returned to the register where she had left her purse, it was closed, and she was told the employee assigned to that area was on break.
Investigators reviewed store surveillance footage, which police say showed another customer, later identified as Harrynarine, removing the money from the wallet, discarding the wallet, and exiting the store without attempting to return it.
Officers later recovered $800 in cash that was turned over to the Coral Springs Police Department as evidence.
Harrynarine was booked into the Broward County Jail and later released after posting a $2,500 bond.
