The Bad Girls Basketball travel team are champions again following their win in the North Florida Hoop Group Nationals on July 17.
This Coral Springs travel basketball team, led by coaches Donald Calloway, Diana Guzman, Aleah Bell, Steven Hill, and Jeremy Thuraisingham, went undefeated in the tournament and finished it with a 52-40 win over Tattnall Lady Cheifs.
Rhael Sayers led the way with 20 points, while MacKenzie Topkin added eight and ten rebounds. Victoria Pickinton and Camryn Smith were almost automatic from the three-point line. Bergyne Darang also hit a big three while Ermani Lewis and Madisun Hill locked it down defensively.
Gianna Mure, India Smith, Victoria Pickinton, Valerie Lespinasse, Suelen Quimiz, Ariana Irizarry, and Zylaah Marders all played an essential part in the team’s success. Coach Calloway calls this team on big family.
“The constant winning comes down to the sacrifice of the parents,” said Coach Calloway. “They’re so into what we’re doing they will sit In the parking lot the whole practice 2-3 times a week. If I ask them for things, they will do whatever they can to make it happen.”
The Bad Girls recently played in a tournament in Atlanta and finished third out of 32 teams, with over 80 college coaches in attendance for the tournament. This season, the Bad Girls have won four of their six matches and have played in three major showcases, going 14-4 in their final appearance this year.
