Broward County Animal Care is waiving adoption fees through July 26 as part of the nationwide Empty the Shelters campaign, giving residents the opportunity to adopt a pet while helping create space for more homeless animals in the shelter.
The adoption event is made possible through a partnership with the BISSELL Pet Foundation, which is covering adoption fees during the campaign. Standard Broward County pet registration fees still apply.
The national initiative aims to reduce barriers to pet adoption while allowing animal shelters to care for additional dogs and cats in need of homes. Broward County Animal Care has dogs and cats of all ages, breeds and sizes available for adoption.
Every adopted pet is spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped before going home.
“Every adoption removes a barrier for another animal waiting for help,” said Doug Brightwell, director of Broward County Animal Care. “Through our partnership with BISSELL Pet Foundation, we’re making it easier for families to say ‘yes’ to adoption while creating much-needed space to care for more homeless pets. When you adopt, you’re not just changing one animal’s life—you make it possible for us to serve the next one, too.”
Community members are encouraged to visit the shelter, meet the adoptable animals and experience the impact adoption can have on both pets and families.
The adoption event runs daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. through July 26 at Broward County Animal Care, 2400 SW 42nd St. in Fort Lauderdale.
Residents can browse adoptable pets online at PetAdoptions.Broward.org or visit the shelter in person. For additional information about adoption, fostering or other Animal Care services, visit the county’s website.
