In the first annual Jason G. Stein Swamp Bowl, Coral Glades defeated J.P. Taravella High School 21-12 on Friday night.
The new name comes from the loss of JPT Athletic Director Jason Stein earlier this season. Jason’s wife, Michelle, is an assistant principal at Coral Glades High School.
It was a slow start to the game as each team struggled offensively, but the Jaguars opened the scoring by forcing a turnover deep in the Trojans’ territory. Then, quarterback Dylan Knaebel connected with Kyle Williamson for a touchdown to give the Jaguars a seven-point lead.
Knaebel threw his second touchdown of the game shortly before halftime, and both teams forced a turnover with an interception in the final minute of the first half.
Coral Glades made it 21-0 on a touchdown from Jamari Collier right out of the break. JPT scored two late touchdowns in the second half and recovered an onside kick, but it was not enough for the Trojans to win their first game of the season.
Up next for these schools, Coral Glades will play their final regular-season game of the year on Friday, November 20, at 7 p.m. against Coral Springs. JPT will face Marjory Stoneman Douglas also on Friday, November 20, at 7 p.m.
