Before the varsity teams take the field this week, Coral Glades and Coral Springs High School JV football faced off.
On Wednesday, with the Jaguars coming in with a win in their first game against Monarch, the Colts played their season opener. Coral Glades dominated and picked up a 34-0 victory to move to 2-0. They have outscored the opposition 56-6 in their two games.
Head Coach Andres Torres felt he saw significant improvement from the last game.
“All three phases, from offense to defense to special teams, went out tonight and made plays,” Torres said. “A testament to the coaches & players putting in the work With this team feeding off that intensity, going out and just playing ball.”
Brandon Gac was a star on defense with a 13-yard interception returned for a touchdown and a safety. Latavious Taylor had a pair of rushing touchdowns, both a touchdown and two-point conversion, while Philip Blair Jr. had a rushing score from five yards. Damerio Bailey and Nicholas Insua also forced a safety in the win.
“This group of young student-athletes are the ones that are taking in the coaching well and have the fortitude to take on the challenges before them,” Torres added. “There are still different things that need to be adjusted and worked on, but everything is developing in the right direction.
Next, Coral Glades will play Blanche Ely High School on Wednesday, September 28, at 6:30 p.m. This will be the Tigers’ first game after the season after going 0-2 in 2021.
