Jordin Shurpin, a senior on the Coral Glades softball team, has officially announced her commitment to play at the New College of Florida.
“To know all of my hard work paid off is such an honor, and I could not have done it without my travel coaches and high school coach,” Shurpin said.
Shurpin started playing softball at the age of six in the Coral Springs Recreational League and then went on to play travel ball for the Coral Springs Panthers – Gomes/Little. She has since played on the VSA Lions – Gomes/Little, Florida Gold – Lopez/Santana, and now changed organizations to Stars National Fl – Lopez/Santana.
Shurpin also had a strong season with the Coral Glades varsity softball team, hitting .300 with two doubles, two triples, and three RBIs last year, while also making six appearances on the mound. For college, she liked the team’s culture and felt they had a terrific future ahead of them.
“They all have such a strong bond, and that comes together on the field,” Shurpin added. “ I went to a couple of their games, and that was the main thing that stood out to me. They also have a good pre-med program that will help me in the future when it comes to finding a job.”
Shurpin is set to play for a college team that won 17 games a season ago. While she hopes to improve her hitting and become stronger, she also knows the challenge of balancing softball and academics at the next level. Shurpin will still have one more year left on varsity as the Jaguars made Regionals a season ago.
