Coral Glades Students Hosts Drive-By Donation Drive to Support the Sawgrass Nature Center

Coral Glades High School is gearing up for a unique event that not only highlights the dedication of its students but also contributes to the conservation of the Everglades and its wildlife.

The school’s DECA chapter, under the guidance of three sophomore project managers – Dominic Ayala, Isabella Infante, and Natalia Hernandez – is spearheading a community awareness project called “Guarding the Glades.” Witch aims to raise awareness about the Everglades ecosystem and the creatures that call it home.

The collaboration between Coral Glades DECA and the Sawgrass Nature Center is awareness about the importance of preserving the Everglades and its unique biodiversity.

As part of their efforts, the students have organized a ‘Trunk Drive’ event to collect essential items that will benefit the Sawgrass Nature Center scheduled to take place on December 6, 2023, from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm at the Coral Glades High School student parking lot, at 2700 Sportsplex Dr.

The drive-by donation drive provides an opportunity for community members to make a meaningful contribution to the conservation of the Everglades ecosystem.

Individuals are encouraged to participate by dropping off donation items that will be given to the Sawgrass Nature Center.

Tissues

Ziplock bags
Large heavy-duty plastic garbage bags (39 gal & up)
Small 13 gal garbage bag
Fleece blankets
Postage stamps
Elmer’s glue sticks

Food
Turtle food: zoo med aquatic turtle food
Large round pellets
Unsalted nuts, seeds, peanuts (in shell)
Bird seeds (all types)
Oats (plain)

Equipment
Cable ties
Treated lumber
Gardening equipment (rakes, gloves)
Electric extension cords (indoor & outdoor)
Heating pads (without auto shut off)
Infrared bulbs (without auto shut off)
Weed wacker

Big wishes
Incubator
Trail cam
Gift cards (Home Depot, Publix, Walmart, Office Depot, & pet stores)
Cash funds for new aviaries, habitats, medical supplies, & baby formula
