Coral Springs High School’s chorus program received significant honors at the Music Performance Assessment (MPA) held on March 3 at Parkway Middle School.
The Colt Choir (mixed chorus) and women’s chorus both received overall superior ratings. The choirs were evaluated in tone quality, technical preparation, and musical effect. Following their stage performance, they were evaluated on sight-reading, according to Christine Barrette, the choral director and fine arts department chair.
“We want our music education not only to produce phenomenal musicians, but also well-rounded students and critical thinkers. This connection was evident when their performance at the MPA demonstrated their critical thinking skills,” said Barrette.

On February 5, Coral Springs High School hosted the district solo and ensemble music performance assessment. Following this event, twelve vocal soloists and two piano soloists from Coral Springs earned superior ratings and will participate in the upcoming solo and ensemble MPA in Palm Beach County, according to Barrette.
