From the Coral Springs City Commission:
We are preparing for an active summer season here in the city as the school year comes to a close!
Families are invited to celebrate the end of the school year at the Panthers Ice Den on Friday, June 10. This free skating event is part of the Coral Springs Parks & Recreation Department’s Family Fun Night and takes place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
In addition, the city will hold a Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 18, from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. This family-friendly event will feature great entertainment, step and dance performances, great food, and libations. The event marks Freedom Day, a day that symbolizes the abolition of slavery in the United States. To learn more, visit coralsprings.org/Juneteenth.
The arrival of summer in Florida is also the start of hurricane season. Now is the time for residents to review their hurricane preparedness plans and double-check supply kits. Florida residents can take advantage of a “disaster preparedness” sales tax holiday now through June 10, 2022, for the purchase of supplies like flashlights, batteries, and generators. Residents are encouraged to sign up for emergency alerts from the city, including severe weather advisories, by texting the keyword AlertCS to 888-777. For more information, visit coralsprings.org/hurricane.
Finally, June is Men’s Health Awareness Month. When men prioritize their mental and physical health with regular health screenings, exercise, diet, and self-care practices, they not only create a better life for themselves but also serve as more positive role models for the boys and young men in their lives. Men’s Health Month is a great time to remind men across our community of the importance of taking care of themselves so that they can live long, healthy lives.
The next Commission meetings will take place on Wednesday, June 1, and Wednesday, June 15 at 6:30 p.m. Meetings are aired on CityTV, Blue Stream Channels 25, 25.7, 725, and AT&T U-Verse channel 99. Meetings are also live-streamed at CoralSprings.org/CityTV.
