Joey Georgiou {954 Preps}
Joey Georgiou of Coral Springs has officially committed to play college baseball at Muhlenberg College in Pennsylvania.
Georgiou calls it a big weight lifted off his shoulders and is eager for the opportunity as he becomes the 22nd and final senior from the Pokers to commit.
“I now know where I will be attending college, and I am excited to get to play,” Georgiou said.” I realized that not everyone gets a chance to play college baseball and I didn’t want to miss out on this opportunity I have been given.”
Georgiou’s played baseball since he was five and began with the Original Florida Pokers five years later. He recently won his second straight BCS Championship with the Pokers under his dad, Rob Georgiou, and plays high school baseball at NSU University.
“Joey committing to play baseball in the centennial conference next year, against my Alma mater, Franklin and Marshall is a dream come true for me as a dad and a coach, Rob said. With less than six percent of all high school baseball players having the chance to play in college, it puts in perspective just how hard it is to play today at the NCAA level.”
During his varsity career, Joey shined during his sophomore year hit .471, and drove in five runs before another strong junior year. He will have one more year playing high school baseball and hopes to improve on his strength and time management before going on to play for a college team that won nine games a season ago.
