Jaxson Jewell of Coral Springs is officially headed to the United States Naval Academy after receiving a congressional nomination from U.S. Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL).
Jewell, a Butler Farms resident, will play college football at Navy after graduating from Deerfield Beach High School this spring.
“It feels almost surreal, as I grew up watching college football on TV and the Army-Navy Game each year,” Jewell said. “Now, I get to be one of those guys on TV and play in one of the most notable games in college football. I can confidently say my parents are proud, and I am excited about what the future holds.”
Jewell began his high school career at St. Andrews, transferred to Deerfield Beach High School, and played under former Coral Glades Head Coach Cam Thomas.
A three-sport athlete, he had a terrific run with the Bucks during his varsity career. He also competed at the state championship in track and field and was a key member of the boys basketball team.
His sister, McKeznie Jewell, plays college softball at Eastern Florida University.
Deerfield Beach finished the 2024 season with one win after a 36-0 shutout against Marjory Stoneman Douglas. Jewell is set to join a college team that is 8-3 this year and is also set to compete in a bowl game.
