Coral Springs Police say a driver dragged a bicyclist by his shirt and ran over his foot during a road-rage confrontation on Coral Ridge Drive.
According to a Coral Springs Police Department arrest report, Kenneth Darren Hurley, 55, was arrested August 13 and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. The charges stem from an incident that officers say began after they responded to the area of 3000 Coral Ridge Drive regarding an aggravated battery.
Upon arrival, riders told police they were traveling northbound in the bicycle lane on Coral Ridge Drive when a man driving a black Lexus began honking and yelling at them before allegedly attempting to run them off the road.
Police said the driver then stopped, got out of the vehicle, and incited a confrontation that turned violent.
According to the affidavit, Hurley allegedly attacked one rider. When another rider attempted to record the confrontation on a cellphone, police said Hurley slapped the phone from his hand.
Hurley then allegedly returned to the Lexus but grabbed one of the bicyclists by his shirt as he began driving away.
The rider told police he was being dragged by his shirt, causing it to tear, before he was eventually able to free himself from Hurley's grip. Police said the rider's shirt was extensively torn and that he had a tire scuff mark on his left sandal.
One of the bicyclists had recorded video of the confrontation, according to police. Investigators also obtained an image of the Lexus during the incident and determined the vehicle was registered to Hurley at a residence near the 11500 block of Northwest 33rd Street.
Hurley was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
