Olivia Higgins, a top Coral Springs High School distance runner, finished in second place at the 4A Region 4 Cross Country Meet in Miami on November 12.
She will represent her school at the state championship meet in Tallahassee on November 22.
Olivia Noel of J.P. Taravella High School finished in seventh place. The Marjory Stoneman Douglas girls’ team finished fifth and qualified for the state championship. The Taravella girls’ team earned seventh place and also made the state championship.
The Coral Springs High School boys’ cross-country team finished in seventh place and qualified for the state championship. Taravella came in 12th, and Marjory Stoneman Douglas came in 13th. Neither team qualified.
Craig Dennis of Taravella finished 26th and qualified for the championship as an individual. Matthew Wykpisz of Coral Springs came in 31st.
Taravella Coach Spann said she was proud of the girls’ team and the effort they have put in this season. “They have worked hard and now they are going to the States. Craig Dennis has trained hard and kept improving during the season,” said Spann.
