A Coral Springs man faces felony voyeurism charges after a female acquaintance staying at his house discovered hidden bathroom cameras and footage of her and another unknown woman naked.
On December 24, a woman reported to the Coral Springs Police Department that she had been the victim of video voyeurism, with the alleged suspect a known friend.
According to records, the woman was staying temporarily at the Coral Springs apartment of the man, later identified as Javier A. Gomez, 57, of Coral Springs, a friend she had known since 2019 when, during her stay, she discovered Gomez had allegedly installed hidden cameras in his bathroom.
According to the victim, she had spent roughly a month at Gomez’s residence near the 2900 block of Riverside Drive before returning to Colombia. She described her relationship with Gomez as strictly platonic.
The victim told officers the footage she discovered included private moments of her in the restroom, including the woman showering, using the toilet, and other private activities.
The discovery was made when the woman, provided with a loaner cellphone by Gomez, stumbled upon videos on the device that displayed her naked and exposed, along with footage of other unidentified women in similar situations.
A subsequent CSPD investigation revealed two remote camera viewing applications, “HD Live Camera” and “CamDuck,” on Gomez’s phone, linked to the covert recording. The apps utilized are known for live-streaming videos from covert recording devices and saving them to cloud-based storage platforms.
In a detailed bathroom search, the woman found a black digital clock and a white USB wall charger containing hidden cameras. The devices were strategically placed to capture the toilet and shower area footage.
After completing their investigation, CSPD took Gomez into custody at his Coral Springs home on January 18, arrested him, and transported him to the Broward County Main Jail.
He has since been released after posting a bond of $25,000.
