Matthew Charles England {BSO}
A Coral Springs man was arrested after police say he caused a disturbance at Moon Thai restaurant, assaulted a bartender, and spat and struck officers during his arrest.
According to Coral Springs Police Department arrest records, on October 14, officers responded to a disturbance call from the Moon Thai and Japanese Restaurant, located at 9637 Westview Drive, after staff reported an intoxicated customer – later identified as Matthew Charles England, 38 – was refusing to leave.
Witnesses told police that England appeared “wobbly and intoxicated” after being served two drinks. When a bartender refused to serve him more alcohol, England allegedly became irate, yelling homophobic slurs and threatening to fight the bartender before assaulting him.
When officers arrived, the report indicated they observed England slurring his words, cursing at customers, and ignoring multiple commands to leave the restaurant. The report also states that as officers attempted to escort him outside, England “lifted his fists” and “charged” at them, forcing officers to pin him against a wall.
During the arrest, England allegedly violently resisted. Once handcuffed, he was taken to a patrol car, where officers say he spat on an officer. The arrest report alleges that England kicked an officer in the groin after a spit mask was placed on him.
Records show officers were forced to use a “distraction strike” to subdue England and placed him in leg restraints before transporting him to Broward Health Coral Springs for medical clearance.
England was medically cleared and subsequently transferred to the Broward Main Jail. He was later released after posting a $5,000 bond.
