Jenn Bakowski is disappointed with the direction of the United States under the leadership of President Donald Trump.
A co-founder of Joyful Resistance South Florida, she helped lead the No Kings Protest in Coral Springs around the intersection of Sample Road and University Drive on October 18.
About 2,000 individuals participated, according to Christine Bleecker, one of the event organizers. Many participated in friend and family groups and stood along the roads—most held signs demanding less authoritarian leadership in the nation. The event was peaceful, and there were no counter demonstrations. Many of the passing cars honked their horns in support.
“We are protesting the current leadership and the authoritarian regime in the U.S. People are being abducted from the streets of our cities, and they are not receiving due process. We need to build community, so people are not resisting alone,” said Bakowski.
People of all ages and backgrounds participated. Simon Wong of Coral Springs said he would like to see the nation brought back together. “I think the Trump-led administration is making a mess, and we have too much division. I want more inclusiveness in the U.S,” said Wong.

Bob Fortier of Tamarac is angry with the president and said, “Trump is a liar and he wants to spend millions on a ballroom at the White House.”
Jill Upson of Coral Springs believes more people should participate in selecting the nation’s leaders. “We have higher prices, and healthcare is getting worse. More people need to vote for change,” she said.
In addition to protesting, participants were encouraged to make a donation of diapers and baby wipes to the Diaper Bank Covering South Florida.
