Forest Glen parents at Wings Plus in Coral Springs {David Volz}
Parents and community leaders are organizing an effort to keep Forest Glen Middle School open as Broward County Public Schools considers closing the under-enrolled campus.
Supporters plan to attend a community meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, at Coral Springs High School, where they will have an opportunity to share their concerns with School Board members.
Forest Glen is among several schools Broward Schools Superintendent Howard Hepburn is considering for closure. One proposal would send the school’s seventh- and eighth-grade students to Coral Springs High School and relocate sixth graders to nearby elementary schools.
The school began the 2026-27 academic year with about 730 students on a campus designed to accommodate approximately 1,600, according to the district.
Parents gathered on Sept. 4 at Wings Plus to discuss the potential closure and develop strategies to keep the school open.
Desiree Guell, a parent leader whose son is in seventh grade at Forest Glen, encouraged community members to advocate for the school.
“We are an A-rated school, and we want the School Board to be aware of how good Forest Glen is,” Guell said. “It offers good programs to the children in our neighborhood. It has an award-winning band and chorus program.”
Tiffany Hoffman, whose children are in seventh and eighth grades at Forest Glen, said the school provides stability for families in the community.
“Forest Glen is a great school, and we need to keep it open,” Hoffman said. “It has many great academic and arts programs.”
Coral Springs Commissioner Joshua Simmons attended the gathering and encouraged parents to tell School Board members they want Forest Glen to remain open.
