The Coral Springs Museum of Art is launching a new program this summer designed to make art experiences more accessible for children who may require additional support and their families.
Art Spectrum, a free monthly program for children ages 2 and older, offers an inclusive museum experience for participants, including those with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental differences.
The one-hour sessions include a guided tour of the museum’s current exhibition followed by a hands-on art activity in a small-group setting.
The program will debut with sessions from 2 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, and Saturday, July 25.
The sessions are led by a board-certified, registered art therapist who specializes in working with individuals with developmental differences and are intended to provide an accessible and welcoming environment for creative exploration.
“At the Coral Springs Museum of Art, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to experience the power of creativity,” Museum Director Juliana Forero said. “Art Spectrum helps remove barriers to participation and creates a space where children and families can engage with art in a way that feels comfortable, meaningful, and enjoyable.”
The museum has also introduced sensory kits for guests with sensory sensitivities. Available free of charge at the front desk, the kits include noise-canceling headphones, fidget tools, verbal cue cards, and weighted lap pads. The kits are provided through Kulture City.
Art Spectrum is free, but advance registration is required due to limited space.
