Coral Springs resident and Community Redevelopment Agency Board member Lorna Brown-Burton has been recognized for three decades of service to the Girl Scout movement, receiving the 2026 Lifetime Service Award from Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida.
The award was presented on May 9 and recognizes Brown-Burton’s more than 30 years of volunteer leadership and support of Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida and its predecessor, the Broward County Council.
“Lorna has strengthened and guided our council and committees for three decades,” said Lisa Johnson, chief executive officer of Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida. “She’s a Lifetime Girl Scout who is kind, generous, helpful and totally dedicated to our Movement.”
Brown-Burton’s connection to Girl Scouting began in her childhood in Jamaica, where she participated in the Girl Guides program, the British Commonwealth equivalent of Girl Scouts.
A workers’ compensation attorney, Brown-Burton has contributed her legal expertise to the organization by reviewing bylaws and gift-acceptance policies. She also played a role in long-range property planning and the council’s 2008 realignment.
Brown-Burton served on the Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida Board of Directors for five years before being elected board chair, a position she held from 2013 to 2019. Since completing her term as chair, she has remained actively involved in council programs and initiatives.
In addition to her work with Girl Scouts, Brown-Burton serves on The Florida Bar Board of Governors representing the 17th Judicial Circuit. She previously served on The Florida Bar Board of Governors Young Lawyers Division and chaired a Florida Bar Grievance Committee for the 17th Circuit.
Appointed by the Coral Springs City Commission, Brown-Burton is currently serving her third term on the Coral Springs Community Redevelopment Agency Board.
The Lifetime Service Award was established in 2014 by the Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida Board of Directors. The honor recognizes individuals whose sustained volunteer efforts have made extraordinary contributions to the organization and its mission.
Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida serves more than 6,900 girls across Broward, Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River and Okeechobee counties, providing leadership development and educational opportunities for girls ages 5 to 17.
