Ethan Persten continues to dominate the local high school swimming scene.
He earned first place in the 100-freestyle and 200-freestyle at the 4A District 11 championship at South Broward High School on October 20. He also swam on the 200-freestyle relay and 400-freestyle relay teams that took first place.
A Coral Springs resident and former swimmer at Coral Glades High School, Ethan joined the Cypress Bay High School team this season. The Cypress Bay boys’ team took first place at the district meet. Now he is preparing to compete in the regional meet at Doral Aquatic Center, 3005 Northwest 93rd Avenue in Doral, on October 28.
His father, Brian Persten, is proud of the effort Ethan has put into swimming. “He has a passion for swimming, and he always wants to do the best he can. He is dedicated to practicing every day,” said Brian.
Like many competitive swimmers, Ethan trains with a club team and is a member of TS Aquatics in Tamarac. “In this area, most of the top swimmers are part of club teams,” said Brian.
The Coral Glades boys’ swim team finished fourth, and the girls’ team finished fourth. The 4X100 relay team took second place and qualified for the regional meet. Team members include Ben Denevi, Miguel Moreira, Pablo Perez Hernandez, and Galen Tortorella.
Galen Tortorella placed fourth in the 100-breaststroke and fourth in the 200-individual medley.
