We asked residents to send us their best shot for our Facebook cover art contest, and 126 residents obliged, sending us photos of children, sunsets, pets, birds, and various trees, and clouds around the city.
Photos were chosen first if they fit the dimensions of a Facebook cover photo, then on composition and sharpness. We were looking for high-quality, non-altered photos.
The writer staff of Coral Springs Talk chose a beautiful, sharp night shot of the Downtown Coral Springs sign by Bill Macfarlane.
MacFarlane is a 20 year resident of Coral Springs who said he’s always loved photography. In 2018, he thought the new City Hall looked beautiful wanted to get some aerial shots of it with his drone at dusk when the lights would just be coming on.
“I hadn’t noticed before how colorful that sign out front was. So after I was done, I walked over to look at the sign up close. Given how beautifully colorful it was, I had to take a few more.”
He took out his Samsung Galaxy S7 and used it to take a handful of shots and thought they had come out pretty well.
Macfarlane and his wife Linda are native Floridians who love living in Coral Springs and enjoy its diversity. They also enjoy riding motorcycles and sportbikes. He works as an IT Specialist and administers servers and infrastructure for Toshiba America Energy Systems.
Refusing to accept the $100 prize for the photo, Macfarlane asked us to donate it to an organization that helps feed people. We chose the Chabad of Coral Springs Feeding Our Community Fund, which offsets some of the costs associated with the weekly food distributions they host on Wednesdays.
His photo will be featured on our Facebook page timeline with over 40,000 followers and our Twitter page with over 16,000 followers.
