More than a golf outing, the 3rd Annual Father’s Day Tournament brings the community together to celebrate fatherhood and support a cause deeply meaningful to this year’s honoree.
The 3rd Annual Father’s Day Golf Tournament returns to the Country Club of Coral Springs on Friday, June 13. This year’s tournament will benefit the Coats Plus Foundation, a cause born from tragedy and rooted in hope.
The Coats Plus Foundation was launched by Bryan Docobo, a Coral Springs resident and father whose sons were both diagnosed with Coats Plus Syndrome, a rare and often fatal genetic disorder. In June 2024, Bryan lost his 4-year-old son, Ethan, to the disease.
“Being recognized at this event is deeply personal,” Docobo said. “It’s not just an acknowledgment of me as a father — it’s a tribute to my son Ethan and to the ongoing fight we’re in for his older brother, Liam.”
Coats Plus Syndrome is an ultra-rare disorder caused by a telomere-related gene mutation, only identified in 2012. It leads to a host of medical complications, from retinal degeneration to gastrointestinal and neurological issues.
“The condition is life-shortening, and many children are misdiagnosed. Early recognition matters. There is no cure yet. But we’re fighting to change that,” said Docobo.
The Father’s Day event promises various ways for dads to showcase their golf skills while supporting a significant cause. Participants can expect a scramble-style tournament, a $20,000 hole-in-one contest, longest drive and closest-to-the-pin challenges, a resort stay putting contest, and a Father’s Day Trophy Cup competition.

A silent auction will also be held, featuring prizes such as Inter Miami tickets, a Florida West Coast Airbnb stay, a private boating trip, and even a grand piano.
“This event is one part golf, one part gratitude, and one big part giving back,” said Docobo. “It’s the perfect way to celebrate fatherhood — by standing together for something bigger than ourselves.”
There are several ways to get involved with this year’s event, whether you’re interested in the golf competitions, helping the Coats Plus Foundation, or both.

Docobo tells Coral Springs Talk he has lived in Coral Springs for five years, and that the support from the local community has helped his family endure their most difficult moments. “This place has become home — and our neighbors have become lifelines.”
When asked what being a father means to him, Docobo reflected on the joy and heartbreak of his journey.
“Being a dad is the most sacred role I’ll ever hold. All I ever wanted was to be a T-ball coach. Now, I fight daily for something bigger — for hope, breakthroughs, for my sons and families like ours.”
The Coats Plus Foundation is already advancing access to experimental treatments, including compassionate-use medications and stem cell therapies, which have shown promise despite being expensive and unavailable in the U.S.
“We’re now advocating for domestic access, insurance support, and progress toward gene-editing solutions,” Docobo shared. “Ethan’s story launched a mission — and we won’t stop until it moves mountains.”
