Meta Glasses Video Leads to Arrest After Alleged Armed Road-Rage Confrontation in Coral Springs

A man faces charges after Coral Springs Police said he pointed a gun at a driver during a road-rage dispute and tried to delete Meta glasses video.
According to a Coral Springs Police Department arrest report, Victor Alejandro Villarroel, 42, of Margate, was arrested August 26 and charged with aggravated assault with a firearm and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence. The arrest stems from an incident that began near the area of 4200 Woodside Drive after police received multiple reports of a driver with a firearm.
While officers were responding, dispatchers learned both drivers were on the phone with police and had stopped near 7400 Wiles Road. Officers conducted felony traffic stops on both vehicles upon arrival.
Police said the other driver told investigators she had been traveling northbound on Woodside Drive when Villarroel passed her on the left.
The woman told officers she later stopped her vehicle, opened the driver's-side door, and argued with Villarroel while remaining inside. According to the affidavit, she alleged that Villarroel then displayed a handgun and pointed it at her.
Investigators wrote that the woman then left the area and called 911 while following Villarroel long enough to provide his license plate to dispatchers, according to police.
Villarroel gave officers a different account of the encounter.
Records show Villarroel claimed the woman had stopped directly in front of his vehicle, exited her car and approached him aggressively. He allegedly denied initially pointing or brandishing a firearm and told officers the encounter had been recorded on his Meta smart glasses.
Police said Villarroel acknowledged having a firearm inside his center console and consented to officers retrieving it.
Investigators then asked Villarroel to show them the video recorded by his glasses.
According to police, Villarroel initially said the recordings were private and that he did not want officers viewing them. After officers explained that they wanted to review footage connected to the incident, he allegedly agreed to locate the video on his phone.
Police said that while Villarroel was displaying the footage to a sergeant, the video showed a firearm before Villarroel allegedly attempted to delete the recording in front of officers.
He was immediately taken into custody on suspicion of attempting to destroy evidence.
During a subsequent interview at the Coral Springs Police Department, Villarroel allegedly admitted he tried to delete the footage because he was “panicking,” according to the affidavit. Police said he then admitted to brandishing the firearm and pointing it at the woman. According to investigators, he later said he “made a mistake” and “ruined his life.”
Villarroel was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
