A Coral Springs tax investigation led to the arrest of a Sunrise used car dealer accused of pocketing more than $77,000 in state sales taxes collected from customers, according to the Florida Department of Revenue.
According to a Coral Springs Police Department arrest report, Alexander Medina, 42, owner and manager of Next Level Auto LLC in Hollywood, was taken into custody on July 31 in connection with an outstanding warrant issued in late 2025.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed by the Florida Department of Revenue, Medina allegedly collected at least $77,431.79 in sales taxes between May 2023 and February 2025 and pocketed it for himself.
The investigation found Medina was the sole member, manager and registered agent of Next Level Auto LLC, a used car dealership at 2247 Pembroke Road in Hollywood. State records also listed him as the only person responsible for filing the company’s monthly sales tax returns and making tax payments.
The case has a Coral Springs connection.
Investigators say Department of Revenue employees made at least 16 attempts to contact Medina about the growing tax delinquency, including three in-person meetings at the Department’s Coral Springs Service Center. During those meetings, Medina allegedly acknowledged he was responsible for collecting and remitting sales taxes, filing the dealership’s tax returns, making business decisions and signing company checks.
Despite those contacts, investigators say Medina stopped filing required sales tax returns beginning in January 2024 while continuing to operate the dealership. Officials also said a request for business records went unanswered, and Medina did not appear for a voluntary interview during the criminal investigation.
Medina was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
