A Coral Springs woman was arrested in connection to the murder of Daniela Tabares Maya on Saturday.
On November 23, 2019, at approximately 5:55 am, Coral Springs Police responded to 1659 NW 100th Drive, in Coral Springs, after someone reported an unknown female dead in her driveway.
Officers found the victim identified as Daniela Tabares Maya, 21, of Coral Springs, deceased from an apparent gunshot wound in the forehead with a 9 mm handgun.
Coral Springs Police detectives conducted an investigation and determined the initial 911 caller identified as Yvonne Serrano, 51, of Coral Springs, shot and killed the victim in the early morning hours of November 23, 2019.
The previous day Maya and Serrano attended “21 Bridges” at the Silver Spot Cinema. They did not sit together; however, Serrano stated she and the victim were part of a large group of friends who all attend the same gym called Training for Warriors in Coral Springs.
After the movie ended, they went to World of Beer, and both the victim and Sarrano can be seen on surveillance inside conversing, laughing, and drinking for several hours. The victim and Serrano are seen on video, leaving the bar together with the victim driving her home.
Surveillance shows the car pulling into Maplewood Isles at 2:00 a.m.
Serrano contacted CSPD at 5:55 a.m., stating an unknown female in an unknown vehicle was discovered in her driveway as she exited her home to workout.
Police reported that Serrano was neither dressed in gym attire nor did she appear ready to workout.
Telling police she had no recollection of how she got home from World of Beer, she said she woke up that morning only to find the body of a dead woman in her driveway.
As the interview progressed, she changed her story, stating that she did not wake up in her own bed — she woke up, observed the driver’s door of the vehicle open, and saw the body of Daniela Tabares lying on the driveway.
Serrano was arrested and charged with Tampering with Physical Evidence – including deleting footage from her RING doorbell camera, and Murder in the Second Degree. She was subsequently transported to Broward County Jail.
Coral Springs Police Crimes Against Persons Unit is actively investigating the incident and encourages anyone with information regarding the shooting to contact Detective Frank Randazzo at (954)346-1262 or frandazzo@coralsprings.org .
