Broward County Public Schools honored some of its top Career and Technical Education instructors Thursday evening, including a Coral Springs High School educator who earned the district’s highest award in the field.
During the February 26 awards ceremony, presented by the BCPS Career, Technical, Adult, and Community Education Department, Jason Freedman, a Game and Simulation/Animation Programming teacher at Coral Springs High School, was named the 2026 Career and Technical Education Teacher of the Year.
Freedman, who teaches students how to bring digital concepts to life through coding and design, said the classroom gives him the opportunity to blend his love for technology with a deeper purpose.
“The most rewarding aspect is watching students transform their imaginative ideas into tangible, interactive experiences,” Freedman said in a press release following the award ceremony, adding, “This field is not just about coding or designing; it’s about storytelling, problem-solving, and creativity. Seeing students excel in these areas is incredibly fulfilling. Their growth from novices to skilled creators capable of producing professional-quality work is what drives my dedication to teaching CTE.”
Freedman was recognized alongside other standout educators from across the district. Also recognized were Philip Alleman of Atlantic Technical College and Technical High School as the CTE Runner-Up Teacher of the Year, and Jeanne Bermudez of Fort Lauderdale High School as the CTE Rookie Teacher of the Year.
District officials said the annual awards ceremony highlights the critical role CTE teachers play in preparing students for in-demand careers while equipping them with the technical and creative skills needed in today’s workforce.
