Dogma and Olac at Broward County Animal Care.
Two pets with gentle personalities are hoping to find permanent homes this week at Broward County Animal Care, where staff are encouraging residents to consider adoption.
Dogma, a 5-year-old male American Staffordshire Terrier mix weighing 53 pounds, arrived at the shelter last November after being found as a stray in Pompano Beach. His owner did not come forward to reclaim him.
Shelter staff describe Dogma as sweet, gentle, and easy to walk. He enjoys calm affection and treats. During routine medical screening, Dogma tested positive for Ehrlichia, a tick-borne illness common in dogs. As a result, Animal Care is seeking a foster or foster-to-adopt home where Dogma can complete his medication treatment while receiving extra care and attention. Staff note he would do best as the only pet in the home, as he prefers a quieter environment.
Also seeking a new family is Olac, a 7-year-old spayed female domestic shorthair cat weighing about 10 pounds. She arrived at the shelter this month after her owner was hospitalized and could no longer care for her.
Olac is described as affectionate and calm, enjoying pets, treats, and long naps. Her previous owner reported that she has a vision impairment, but staff say it does not slow her down or affect her friendly personality. Shelter staff say Olac would thrive in a loving home where she can provide companionship and comfort.
Both pets can be met in person at Broward County Animal Care, located at 2400 SW 42nd St. in Fort Lauderdale. The shelter is open daily for adoptions from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
All adopted pets are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Adopters pay only a $25 Broward County registration tag fee. Residents can view all animals available for adoption at PetAdoptions.Broward.org.
