Police say surveillance video shows a driver striking a man with his car after an argument outside a Coral Springs Dunkin’.
According to a Coral Springs Police Department arrest report, Zion Emmanuel Lewis, 21, of Pompano Beach, faces a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon stemming from the September 21 incident at 9515 Westview Drive that left the victim with serious injuries.
The victim told officers he had argued with Lewis in the parking lot before Lewis struck him with his car. The impact threw him onto the hood, and he rolled off as the car drove away, the affidavit states.
Police said surveillance footage showed the man walking toward a UPS truck parked across from Lewis’s car after the argument. Lewis pulled out of his parking space, turned toward the man, and struck the back of his legs, according to the affidavit.
The footage showed Lewis accelerating while the man was on the hood, causing him to roll off the passenger side.
The man provided officers with a license plate number, and police found Lewis pulling into a residential driveway located near the 2300 block of Northwest 115th Drive, and the victim identified him during a show-up identification, the affidavit states.
During an interview, Lewis told a detective that the victim had threatened to kill him and that he feared the victim was going to get a gun; however, Lewis acknowledged that he had not said he had a gun or intended to get one, according to the affidavit.
Records show Lewis also claimed the man jumped onto the hood. Police said the surveillance footage contradicted his account.
Police took Lewis into custody and transported him to the Broward County Main Jail.
