Two men were arrested Wednesday for the murder of a 35-year-old Coral Springs man, authorities said.
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit, Brian Skipper, 21, of North Lauderdale, and Keon Collins, 19, of Lauderhill, killed victim Leayle Powell in a fatal shooting near the 7400 block of Kimberly Boulevard on April 27, 2023.
The shooting happened just before 5 p.m. and left Powell dying from multiple gunshot wounds behind an apartment building, authorities said.
Powell was airlifted by BSO Fire Rescue to Broward Health North, where he died.
Ring camera video, still images, and surveillance video of the suspects involved in Powell’s killing were released to the public in November 2023 – part of an effort to generate leads in the case.
Surveillance video of the shooting showed three people walking toward an apartment complex. After the gunshots rang out, the trio was seen running from the area and getting into a red Honda Accord, authorities said.
BSO homicide detectives identified Skipper and Collins as two of the suspects involved in Powell’s killing. They were taken into custody Wednesday at separate locations by BSO’s VIPER and Fugitive Units, authorities said.
BSO did not immediately provide information about the status of the third person seen in the surveillance footage.
Skipper and Collins are charged with first-degree murder. Records show they were being held without bond Friday at the BSO Main Jail.
