Camille Orr, Maplewood Elementary School’s new principal, is eager to lead the school to greater success. She aims to create a welcoming environment where every student feels seen and heard.
Her goal for Coral Springs School is for every student to know that the teachers and administrators care for them.
“We have gifted and high achieving students and children with special needs. My goal is that this school is a place where everyone can succeed,” said Orr.
Orr is passionate about education and helping children. She previously worked as an assistant principal at Dillard Elementary School in Fort Lauderdale from 2020 to 2024. Before that, she served as an assistant principal at Maplewood Elementary School from 2015 to 2019 and said she greatly benefited from the positive mentorship provided by the principals under whom she worked.
“I want to help special needs students achieve all they can academically, and I want them to feel they are an important part of the Maplewood community. They have a lot to offer,” said Orr.
According to Orr, there are many extracurricular opportunities for students. The school offers a running club, a robotics program, a gardening club, and a debate team.
Originally from Jamaica, she continues to learn and is currently studying for a doctoral degree in educational leadership at Florida Atlantic University, where she earned a specialist degree.
She also has a master’s degree from Nova Southeastern University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami.
Orr replaces Leena Itty, now the principal of Lyons Creek Middle School in Coconut Creek.
