J.P. Taravella Open House Showcases Clubs and Opportunities for Students

Samantha Munoz is excited about the new school year.

As president of the J.P. Taravella High School Student Government Association, she is looking forward to many school spirit events and opportunities for students to have fun and get to know each other.

“I want to make Taravella a fun place to go to school, and we are going to have a big homecoming pep rally on October 15. We will have a color war and place posters around the school,” said Munoz.

Victor Disla, the SGA advisor and secretary for the Broward County Association of Student Councils, is also excited about the new year. “We have a good group of SGA members here, and we are going to be a leader in Broward County,” adding that they were going to have a fun year.

Most Taravella student organizations held an open house on August 25. Organization leaders could meet with students and their parents and show them the opportunities they offer.

We Care is one of the newest clubs at Taravella and will allow students to visit people in nursing homes. “We will give students a chance to earn service hours and learn about healthcare,” said Brianna Matthew, President of We Care.

The Taravella Drama Club has plans for the year. Members will hold a festival on October 1-2, during which they give short one-act performances. On February 4, 5, and 6, the club will perform Once Upon a Mattress, according to Izabella Greene, the club’s spokesperson. “We want more students to join, and we allow students to develop more self-confidence,” said Greene.
