In a winning streak not seen since 2018, Forest Glen Middle school’s three choir groups led by director Anthony Zoeller each received superior ratings.
This month, the girls and boys choir groups performed at the Music Performance Assessments at a district-level event organized by the Florida Vocal Association.
“No other middle school in the county has had three straight superior ratings, with the notable exception of our school chorus four years ago,” said Zoeller.
A choir director and music teacher at the school for many years, Zoeller said, the fact Forest Glen Middle has earned a perfect scorecard twice in a single decade speaks volumes about the strength of its choral program.
“We continue to be the strongest middle school choral program in Broward County and among the best in South Florida,” he said.
Though his students at Forest Glen are not old enough to compete at the state level, Zoeller said if they continue their vocal training, they can sing their way into Musical Performance Assessments once they reach high school.
High school entries that receive a superior rating at districts are qualified to apply for what’s known as ‘State MPA.’ A highly select panel of judges evaluates students at this event.
