Funeral services have been arranged by one Coral Springs family who lost their daughter tragically in a wrong-way crash on the Sawgrass Expressway.
Marisa Caran Catronio 21, died early Sunday morning while driving west of University Drive on the Sawgrass Expressway when a wrong-way driver plowed head-on into the 2012 Toyota Camry in which she was a passenger. She was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the 1:45 a.m. collision.
The driver of the Camry, Catronio’s best friend Kaitlyn Nicole Ferrante, also 21, remained in critical condition Monday in Broward Health North.
The women were traveling west and heading home to Coral Springs after a Saturday night out when their car was struck by a Hyundai Sonata driven by Kayla Maria Mendoza, 20, of Hallandale Beach. The accident is still being investigated by FHP.
Both Catronio and Ferrante are 2010 graduates of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.
Thank you so very much for all your kind words and prayers. Me and my brother, Gary are grateful to each of you. Your words have given us strength to manage this tragedy and cope with the disbelief that such a vibrant your lady with her whole life in front of her is so quickly lost.
We are here for only a blink in time and we need to everyday love and appreciate all that is wonderful and embrace our ability to love our children, family and friends. Say “I Love You” and “Hug” your kids everyday because in may be the last time you get to say or do it.” Marisa’s Uncle Ron Catronio
The Catronio’s have shared that the viewing for Marisa Catronio will be 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-9:00 p.m. this Thursday at Coral Springs Funeral Home located 1420 N. University Drive. Mass will be held 10:15 a.m. at Mary Help of Christians in Parkland.
