Head Coach Joesph Guimmule at J.P. Travella High School has had a strong track record of sending his high school baseball players to the next level.
Now he can add Colby Lipovsky, Jakoby Stanley, and Tony Sanders. All three are set to play collegiate baseball in 2021-22.
Lipovsky transferred to the school from Deerfield Beach and will have one year of eligibility before playing at Florida State College at Jacksonville.
He currently lives in Margate but had the chance to play little league in Tamarac at five. Lipovsky then played in Margate when he was 11. He says he would not be where he is today if it wasn’t for his mother, Alaina, and his father, Scott.
“They have guided me to be the best ballplayer I can be nearly my whole life,” Lipovsky said. “They also never gave up on being a parent to me, and I was a lot to handle.”
Stanley grew up playing baseball in Andover, Massachusetts, and moved to Parkland in 2016. He has been on the varsity team since his freshman season but has only had eight at-bats. He missed the entire 2020 season due to an injury but had his coach help him send video to college coaches and give him a chance to play at Eastern Kentucky University.
“It’s been a long journey with ups and downs,” Stanley said. “But God, my family, Coach Guimmule, Trainer Brandon Ortiz, and Coach Gavilan, helped shape me into the student-athlete I am today.”
Sanders has had the most experience playing at JPT with two seasons and hitting .300 or better in both years. Sanders also is solid on the bases as well as in the field at shortstop and will be playing at Nova Southeastern University next year.
“Signing day is all about my players and their families,” Coach Giummule said. “Today is all about all the hard work, travel tournaments, and commitment they have made to baseball for the last 13-15 years.”
JPT will be led by these three seniors this year after going 5-4 in the shortened 2020 season.
