Coral Springs residents and former students will have the opportunity to reconnect with a familiar face this weekend as longtime local teacher and author Jon Fishman hosts a book signing for his debut young adult novel, Ask Me How Do I Feel.
The book signing event will take place on Saturday, October 25, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Barnes & Noble, located at 2790 North University Drive. Fishman, a Coral Springs resident of nearly 30 years, has taught at North Broward Preparatory School for three decades. Over the years, he has told Coral Springs Talk that he has taught countless students through the power of words and storytelling.
“I’ve taught grades 4 and 5, and I currently teach 6th-grade English and serve as the middle school student government advisor,” said Fishman.
Ask Me How Do I Feel tells the story of Ty Steiner, a teen navigating the ups and downs of high school life following his parents’ divorce. As Ty struggles to adjust to his new normal, he finds solace and understanding in an unexpected friendship with Mia, who faces her own family challenges.
Fishman said the idea for the book was born during the quiet days of the COVID-19 lockdown.
“Ask Me How Do I Feel began as a way for me to make sense of loss and the unfinished moments left behind by some of my loved ones,” he said, adding. “The story grew into an exploration of grief, memory, and hope. For any teen who might be struggling to find their own words for loss and forgiveness, I wrote this to offer them a story that says, simply, you’re not alone.”
Drawing inspiration from experiences in the classroom, Fishman said his students have played a major role in shaping the book’s authenticity. “Many of my former students returned to help me edit and shape the voices of the characters. Their insights were invaluable,” he shared.

“Additionally, my son Harris, who is a web comic artist known as Beetle Moses, created the incredible cover art, adding a unique and personal touch to the book.”
For Fishman, holding a signing event in Coral Springs – where so many of his students and their families live – is especially meaningful.
“Hosting a signing event at the Barnes and Noble in Coral Springs feels meaningful and rewarding,” he said. “I’m especially excited to have the event close to home, where many of my former students and their families can come to show their support. I’m looking forward to a great experience connecting with readers, sharing stories, and enjoying the afternoon together.”
The signing will be open to the public, and copies of Ask Me How Do I Feel will be available for purchase at the event.
