A man was taken into custody on May 12 following a nearly two-month investigation into a shooting that stemmed from an argument over gambling debts from playing cards and dominoes during a backyard gathering.
According to an arrest affidavit filed by the Sunrise Police Department, Luckenson Jeudi, 43, of Coral Springs, was arrested on a warrant for shooting into an occupied dwelling.
Records show the investigation stems from an incident that occurred on March 8, when officers were called to a residence in Lauderhill regarding a shooting. Responding officers located the victim in the front yard of the home with a graze wound to his forehead. The victim, who appeared confused and disoriented, was initially only able to identify the shooter by the nickname “A.J.”
Witnesses told police that the shooting took place during a backyard gathering where guests were playing cards and dominoes. According to witnesses, Jeudi was involved in a heated argument over money with another individual.
Records show that during the dispute, witnesses allege that Jeudi pulled out a firearm, recklessly waved it around, and ultimately fired a shot that traveled through the kitchen window, striking the victim inside the home.
The victim later also identified Jeudi as the shooter through a translated interview, correcting the earlier confusion caused by a language barrier, indicating the nickname “L.J.,” not “A.J.”
The investigation was further supported by statements from additional witnesses who observed Jeudi at the scene after the shooting. According to the affidavit, after the gun was fired, Jeudi allegedly approached the injured victim and warned him not to inform police about who shot him.
Authorities obtained a warrant for Jeudi’s arrest in April. The Sunrise Police Department ultimately apprehended him on May 12 at a strip mall at 4400 North University Drive.
Jeudi was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
