Eddie and Vinnys Coastal Italian was touted as the highly anticipated reincarnation of Tavolino Della Notte. It delivers on that promise in every which way.
Eddie Pozzuoli Jr. and his wife, Christina, fully remodeled the inside, which feels very upscale. The revamped front bar has beautiful blue marble, reupholstered seating, a much larger patio area, and live soothing jazz music.
We heard that award-winning Chef Jeff Tunks had done work with the Pozzuolis on their Corvina restaurant in Boca, which we love. He collaborated with the executive chef of Prezzo Restaurants, David Garcia, so we had high expectations for the food itself.
We came early for our reservation just to unwind and try some new cocktails. The Il Capo Old Fashioned was buttery and very smooth. The Sole Di Basilico martini used olive oil-infused Keyka vodka. Add some cherry tomatoes, fresh basil, and lemon, and this was like having a crisp, bright salad in a glass.
From other recommendations, I knew exactly what the most popular items were on the new menu. We started with the Black and Blue carpaccio ($19). Carpaccio thickness is a personal preference, and mine is exactly like this was presented: slices so thin that they melt in the mouth. They seared the edges with blue cheese. It should be drowning in olive oil, and it is. A wondrous black truffle aioli dolloped inside the charred cipollini onions.

My only gripe was that the arugula was way too oversalted.
The Wagyu Meatball ($22) was enormous (like most items on the menu). The ricotta whip is delightful. It’s a great counterbalance to the marinara’s acidity. All four elements, including the crunchy polenta and the meat, form a great bite.

The Chicken Parmesan ($36) was advertised as one of the best ever. I don’t think I’ve ever paid over $30 for a chicken parmesan in my whole life, so for that price, it better be. The ratios of cheese, sauce, and tender meat are perfect. Somehow, they cooked the cheese to the point before browning, releasing all the oils. My knife sliced right through for an incredible bite. I can’t pinpoint why it’s so good, but sometimes nothing is even slightly amiss, and that’s pleasurable in itself.

The Pork chop ($38) with sherry vinaigrette and peppers was a comparative disappointment. It was overcooked and rubbery. Considering the context of the rest of the meal and the packed Saturday night crowd, they definitely get a mulligan from us on that. We actually loved the sauce. Buyer beware though the red peppers gave a kick to the throat and bludgeoned us with the heat. There is no ordering it mild.

Also, take note that entrees are ala carte. The Roasted Cauliflower ($14) might have been one of the best cauliflower dishes I’ve had, period. The slices of almonds added texture, and the golden raisins added a bit of necessary sweetness. The lemon gremolata aioli kept me coming back for more.

The Yukon Black Truffle potato puree ($16) can be ordered with or without truffles. They definitely should be ordered with truffles if possible. When used sparingly like this, it’s brings a subtle truffe flavor that can’t be passed up on.
The Fresh Baked Gooey Butter Cake ($25) is one of the best desserts we’ve ever had. Since I heard it was so great, I didn’t bother to look at the menu and see it’s actually for 2 – 4 people. It’s a behemoth for two people to attempt to take down. My goodness, though, it’s so incredibly moist and rich and buttery on the inside, it’s a crime not to order it. The outside is almost a cookie crisp with Lilly’s vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce drizzled all over. It’s something I’ll be dreaming about until I have it again.

In my opinion, Eddie and Vinnys is an improvement in every way over its predecessor and should instantly vault into many diners’ top five restaurants in the area.
