Two Coral Glades High School students have died, leaving the school community mourning and prompting administrators to open support resources for grieving classmates.
In a message shared on social media, Coral Glades High School said the campus had endured “a very tough week” after the loss of two students who died “tragically before their time.”
One of the students was senior Zamshed Chowdhury, 18, who died in a vehicle crash in Coral Springs March 13 and was known to friends as “Zam.”
According to the school’s statement, Chowdhury was well known within the Coral Glades community and worked alongside several classmates at Dunkin and ABB Optical. The school said he remained closely connected with friends throughout all four years of high school.
Chowdhury was widely described by friends and classmates as deeply loved within the Coral Glades community. Regular customers at the Dunkin where he worked remembered his friendly and hardworking demeanor.
Outside of school and work, his favorite hobbies included fishing, biking, and gaming. Those who knew him also recalled how much he enjoyed fixing things, especially computers and cars.
A GoFundMe fundraiser created to support his family described Chowdhury as “the kindest, funniest, and most respectful young man,” adding that he “touched the lives of so many people.”
The fundraiser aims to help Chowdhury’s family cover funeral expenses and ease the unexpected financial burden created by the tragedy. As of Monday afternoon, the effort had raised more than $25,000.
Organizers said proceeds from the fundraiser will go directly to Chowdhury’s family.
“If you are able, please consider to donate or share this fundraiser for Zamshed’s family as they navigate such a heartbreaking loss,” the fundraiser’s organizers wrote. “Every contribution is so appreciated, no matter how small.”
Funeral services for Chowdhury were held March 15 at the Muslim Cemetery of South Florida in Hialeah Gardens.
The school also announced the death of sophomore Remy Joseph, who had joined Coral Glades this school year. In its message, the school said Joseph “made an impact on all those he met,” describing him as someone who got along with everyone and was “a respectful young man, and nothing but a gentleman.”
Authorities did not provide details about the circumstances of his death.
In response to the students’ deaths, Coral Glades opened its campus space known as The Den to students seeking emotional support.
“We love you all and are here for you,” the school wrote in its message to students and families.
