A man was arrested after Coral Springs police said he fired a gun inside an apartment while several children were inside the home.
According to a Coral Springs Police Department arrest report, Andre Mackeith Harrigan, 26, of Tamarac, was taken into custody on March 8 following an incident that began earlier that morning at an apartment near Northwest 97th Terrace.
Police said they responded to the residence after receiving a 911 call indicating that a man had fired a gun inside the apartment during an argument with a woman. When officers arrived, the woman told police Harrigan, whom she identified as the father of her child, fired the gun inside the home while she was holding their young daughter. She told investigators that three other children and her mother were also inside the apartment at the time of the gunshot.
Investigators reported locating a shell casing inside the bathroom bathtub and a hole in the wall consistent with damage from a gunshot.
Authorities said Harrigan fled the apartment on foot after the incident. Officers later spotted a man matching his description running behind Christ Church near West Sample Road, leading to a brief search of the area.
Police eventually located Harrigan hiding in the branches of a tree near Northwest 97th Terrace. He was removed from the tree and taken into custody without further incident, according to the report.
Crime scene investigators later recovered a projectile that had passed through the bathroom wall. Officers also located a Glock 17 handgun in the grass nearby, which was collected as evidence.
According to investigators, Harrigan was on active probation for aggravated abuse of an elderly or disabled person at the time of the incident.
Harrigan was transported and booked into the Broward County Main Jail.
