Courtney Wahlbrink started the game, and Alyson Vinze finished off a perfect game for the Coral Springs Charter softball team during its win over Coral Reef High School on Tuesday night.
The Panthers won 7-0 as Wahlbrink tossed six perfect innings and struck out 14 of the 18 hitters she faced. Vinze came on in the final inning and struck out two more to complete the perfect game. Gio Gurgel led the offense with a pair of RBIs, while Leah Rutherford, Addi Brown, Wahlbrink, and Chloe Koenig each drove in runs to help the Panthers win their seventh straight game.
Mark Montimurro also credited CSC with what he called one of the biggest regular-season wins in school history on March 6, a 4-0 victory over IMG Academy. Wahlbrink shined again, allowing only four hits and striking out six in that game.
The Panthers continued their strong play by beating St. John’s High School 11-6 on Saturday and Archbishop McCarthy High School 8-2 on Monday. In their most recent game, CSC tossed a one-hitter in a 15-1 win over West Boca Raton Community High School. Wahlbrink tossed the first four innings, and Sofia Diaz threw the final three while Gurgel and Jazzy Chung each hit home runs.
CSC is now 8-1 and has also defeated Park Vista, Marjory Stoneman Douglas, and Somerset Academy this season. The Panthers will be back in action on Friday, March 20, against McEwan High School at 12 p.m. The Warriors went 18-9 last year and ranked 85th in Tennessee.
