A Coral Springs man was arrested on child porn charges Friday after police found pictures and videos in his email of boys having sex with men, court records show.
Investigators discovered at least 40 videos and eight images containing child pornography in emails and on devices used by Joseph Ciaramitaro, 65, who lives on Broken Woods Drive, according to an arrest affidavit filed by Coral Springs Police.
Detectives opened their investigation into Ciaramitaro based on cyber tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which sent police information about illegal pornography Ciaramitaro was allegedly emailing, court records show.
The organization sent police four tips between May and September 2021, the records show.
According to investigators, one of the videos referenced in the tips shows a boy as young as three engaged in a sex act with a 25 to 30-year-old-male.
Police executed a search warrant on Ciaramitaro’s residence on Jan. 21, with investigators approaching the suspect as he and his wife walked toward their vehicle in the parking lot of their condominium neighborhood, according to the arrest affidavit.
Ciaramitaro was detained, separated from his wife, and read his rights, police said.
Then, according to investigators, he started talking.
“Post Miranda, [Ciaramitaro] provided a full confession of his involvement in possessing and transmitting child pornography by means of his cellular phones/personal computers,” a Coral Springs Police detective wrote in the affidavit.
“When asked why he was moving [child porn] between two of his emails, [Ciaramitaro] stated that he was just saving it, and said ‘I don’t know why I do it.’”
During Ciaramitaro’s confession, he said he “would never harm a child, that it was just fantasy,” and that he’d been looking at child porn for about a year, admitting that it had “piqued his interest.”
When asked if he felt looking at images and videos of children being abused was okay, Ciaramitaro said it wasn’t, according to police.
“I don’t think it’s okay,” Ciaramitaro told investigators. “I don’t think it’s right.”
Ciaramitaro is charged with ten counts of possessing, controlling, or viewing depictions of child sexual conduct, one count of transmitting child pornography, and one count of compiling computer pornography involving a minor, records show.
He was held on a $52,000 bond Thursday at the Broward Main Jail.
